that I was about to dodge or hit back but then the enemy would get in first because the slow-mo kicked in and threw me out of sync. To compound things further, the game has an annoying habit of slowing down Matrix style when enemies are about to attack and it felt like it was a hindrance to my attacks, i.e. The two with shields were the problem as the pepper gun felt weak and useless against them and the blade wasn't doing much good either. Got quite frustrated at doing one section during the initial vents section a dozen times against four troll-like things. The combat is quite tough IMO playing on Normal difficulty as different enemies require different tactics and if you're not careful you can find Alice dead within seconds. It's a really nice blend of platforming and shooting so far, roughly in a 55:45 ratio. Sure enough, the game unlocked at exactly that time so I was able to play it for a couple of hours. Unusual for EA but then their manuals tend to be poorly written anyway - UK disc version had a release date check, unfortunately, but at least it told me when I could play the game: midnight, 17th June. This game comes with the briefest of instruction sheets like Valve's games and no proper manual. Why do publishers feel the need to penalise PC gamers? The PhysX effects look OK, paper on the floor a la Batman: Arkham Asylum, but I didn't get much chance to explore Wonderland and I know that fluid is one of the other effects. The visuals are lovely, I wouldn't even know it was UE3 if not for the logo during loading and the brief bit of texture pop in when the superb stylised cutscene finished and it cut to Alice in the psychiatrist's chair in London. I did enjoy what I briefly saw of it though. I guess I'm going to have to wait until midnight before I can play it properly. I did manage to play it for around 20 minutes using a "workaround" (I'll leave that to your imagination) but the game detects that it has been tampered with and bombs to the desktop after ten minutes or so.
